UPDATING
SOLAR FIRE GOLD FONT FILES
The
latest font files contain a new Eris glyph, one that has sought
favour as the “standard” glyph for Eris, at the recent 2008 UAC
Conference in Denver, USA. The Eris glyph that originally shipped
with earlier releases of Solar Fire Gold, prior to v7.0.6, has now
become an option in Preferences.
IMPORTANT:
Before you begin to update your computer to the two new font files,
you must first update your existing version of Solar Fire to bring it
up to v7.0.6. The patch update process loads the two new font files
onto a folder on your computer ready for your installation as stated
below.
To
install the two updated font files, do the following:
•
Ensure
Solar Fire Gold has been closed (i.e. it is not running)
•
Click
on the “Start” button, click on “Control Panel” (or
“Settings” then “Control Panel”) then double-click on the
“Fonts” icon. You will see a list of installed fonts
•
You
now need to delete the two existing font files before installing the
updated ones
•
WARNING:
If you previously had Solar Fire Deluxe (v6) installed, that program
had similar, but not the same, font names as Solar Fire Gold so you
need to be careful that you locate and delete the right ones for
Solar Fire Gold, as stated below.
•
Locate
the font file “ET Sans Serif 2 7,9,11,13,15 (VGA)” font file
(note that it has a “2” after the name, the second version),
right-click on the icon, click on the “Delete” item then click on
the “Yes” button to confirm the deletion. This font file should
now disappear from the list
•
Locate
the font file “ET Symbol 2” font file (note that it has a “2”
after the name, the second version), right-click on the icon, click
on the “Delete” item then click on the “Yes” button to
confirm the deletion. This font file should now disappear from the
list
•
You
now install the updated fonts
•
Click
on the “File” menu item then click on the “Install New Font”
item.
NOTE:
If
you have Windows Vista, you may not initially see the “File” menu
but pressing one of the two “Alt” keys on the keyboard will bring
the menus into view
•
On
the resulting screen, navigate to C:\Program Files\Esoteric
Technologies\Solar Fire\v7 folder by double-clicking on each of the
folders. After you are at the “v7” folder, the two new font files
should appear in the list above the folder list
•
Hold
the “Ctrl” key down on the keyboard then click on each of the two
font files so they are both highlighted
•
Ensure
that the option “Copy fonts to Fonts folder” is ticked
•
Click
on the “OK” button and the two font files will be installed
•
Close
the Fonts window by clicking on the “X” button at the top right
corner
•
Check
that the font files have been successfully installed by starting up
Solar Fire Gold then click on Preferences > Edit Settings >
Misc tab and check that there are two glyph options for Eris
•
Some
computers may need to be rebooted if you cannot see the two glyphs
for Eris
